Wi-Fi calling is a built-in feature on most current smartphones. W-Fi calling lets you make and receive voice calls, texts and video calls over a Wi-Fi network instead of using a cellular network.
Try using Wi-Fi calling if you have weak network coverage or are out of coverage and Wi-Fi is available.
Calls and texts made over Wi-Fi to numbers in the US do not use a cellular network and do not count against your CREDO data allowance. However, the Wi-Fi network you’re connecting to may charge an access fee.
Address set up is required to use Wi-Fi Calling
- CREDO is required by the FCC to support calls and collect a registered location to enable the voice service over internet (Wi-Fi Calling). You are required to provide this information, and this will determine a call made to 911 is routed. This information is used to:
- Provide an address to emergency services if you’re unable to report your location
- Provide an address to emergency services if you are using Wi-Fi calling and dial 911 in an area or location where cellular service isn’t available
- Be sure to update your emergency address whenever you change locations.
Change your E911 Address – Wi-Fi Calling Only
It is important to make sure that you are always able to dial 911 and they know where to go to find you. Using a cell phone for dialing 911 is not like dialing 911 while using a landline. To make sure your address is tied to your phone follow the steps below:
iPhone Only
When turned on, Wi-Fi Calling may improve call quality while indoors on your Apple iPhone.
- From the Home screen, navigate: Settings > Cellular > Wi-fi Calling
If unavailable, swipe left to access the App Library - Tap Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone
3. Tap Update Emergency Address. This info gets transmitted to the emergency dispatcher for all 911 calls made over a Wi-Fi network. If address validation fails, then you are prompted to enter a new address until a valid address is entered.
4. To proceed, from the Terms and Conditions screen, tap the radio button then tap Continue
5. Do one of the following to return to the Home screen:
- For devices with Face ID, swipe up from the bottom of the screen
- For devices with Touch ID, tap the Home button
Your Emergency Address (E911) must match the USPS registry. An alternative address is provided if the address entered does not match the USPS address database.
Android Only
When turned on, Wi-Fi Calling may improve call quality while indoors on your Android device.
1. From the Home screen, navigate: Apps icon > Settings > Advanced Calling
- If unavailable, navigate: Apps icon > Settings > More > Advanced Calling
- For Oreo OS, navigate: Apps icon > Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network > Advanced > Advanced Calling
- For Samsung devices, navigate: Apps > Settings > Connections
- For Samsung devices with Pie OS, navigate: Phone icon > Menu icon (upper-right) > Settings
2. Tap Wi-Fi Calling
3. Tap Update Current Emergency Address
4. Edit the address if needed then tap SAVE
- Caution: This info gets transmitted to the emergency dispatcher for all 911 calls made over a Wi-Fi network. If address validation fails, you are prompted to enter a new address until a valid address is entered.
Important Note: When you're using Wi-Fi Calling, 911 calls always try cellular service first, even when your device is in Airplane Mode or cellular service is off. If cellular service isn't available and you've set up Wi-Fi Calling, the 911 call routes using the registered address.
